Supporting Communities in the Southeast District

Published: May 14, 2004 | Last Updated: May 19, 2005

Microsoft and its employees have long recognized the importance of supporting our local communities. Each year, the company contributes tens of millions of dollars in cash and hundreds of millions of dollars in software to thousands of nonprofit organizations. As a part of Microsoft's commitment to communities around the world, the Microsoft Unlimited Potential (UP) program focuses on partnering with others to provide technology skills for underserved young people and adults through Community-Based Technology and Learning Centers (CTLCs) worldwide. As with all Microsoft locations, the Southeast District (North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia) is committed to supporting nonprofit organizations within the community, and welcomes requests for support from eligible nonprofits.

How to Inquire About Funding

If your nonprofit is located within North Carolina, South Carolina, or Georgia, and you are interested in receiving financial support from Microsoft, please review our program eligibility guidelines first. If your organization meets the eligibility criteria, contact the district Community Affairs team at asksed@microsoft.com or (678) 629-5951 for application information.

How to Inquire About Software Donations

All software donation requests within the United States are handled by our nonprofit partner, TechSoup. Eligible organizations may make one donation request each year. There is no membership fee to access TechSoup, but a small administrative fee from TechSoup will apply to each order.

Programs Supported Within This District

Recent Microsoft community efforts within the Southeast District include:

  • Discovery Place, Inc.—Charlotte, NC. The mission of Discovery Place is to stimulate the public's interest in understanding science, mathematics, and technology by providing quality educational activities, exhibits, programming, and facilities. Support from Microsoft will create a traveling computer learning lab as part of its Science Club Program. This lab will provide weekly technology outreach and science education to approximately 1,000 students. Kids will get the opportunity to develop their technology skills through computer usage, Internet usage, and productivity software training.
  • Friendship Helping Ministries—Charlotte. Friendship Helping Ministries, established in 1999, offers social and educational services to individuals and families. Friendship Helping Ministries has implemented a public computer research lab with 30 Internet-ready work stations for youth and adult computer literacy classes. These programs focus on computer literacy; writing skills; civil living; and encouraging individual positive social, psychological, and vocational change. Microsoft support will help in the development of the lab.
  • Burnsville Recreation and Learning Center, Inc.—Polkton, NC. Burnsville will use support from Microsoft to upgrade their computer lab hardware and peripherals. The lab offers computer training and educational assistance to residents, including a tutoring program for children. Their mission is to promote a stronger rural family relationship, stimulate creativity, and motivate facility users.
