In order to efficiently and quickly serve the diverse needs of its clients, EPAM had several challenges; one of which was finding a way to manage its non-consolidated library of more than 68,000 documents distributed across multiple geographies—from case studies,
general sales collateral, RFIs / RFQs/ RFPs to presentations describing EPAM industry and technology expertise. Moreover, the library was growing at a rate of 35% annually.
“One of our goals was to increase the sales and presales teams’ efficiency and productivity by making it easier for them to find relevant documentation. Another objective was to improve collaboration between EPAM’s geographically distributed divisions, business
units, solution practices, competency centers and accounts without compromising security and compliance regulations. It was also important that the solution would be cost-effective. In the past, our sales team had no choice but to painstakingly go through
different resources in order to build a sales presentation. Understandably, they were getting frustrated because it would take days just to compile a set of documents that they needed,” says Vlad Eydelman, Head of EPAM’s Microsoft Competency Center.
A solution was needed that would not only provide a centralized document storage solution, but also increase collaboration within the company, improve the quality of sales and presales materials, reduce the sales cycle as well as improve the quality of its
global information management system through improved search, taxonomy and semantic analysis.
As a Gold Certified Microsoft Partner, EPAM was well-equipped to find a solution internally. After a thorough analysis of all options, the company decided to combine FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint with its own commercially available information management
product—InfoNgen. The decision to use FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint was based on the need of the sales and pre-sales team to find, collate, package and distribute sales material quickly and efficiently. Using this solution, employees are able to build
sales decks in a fraction of the time that it previously took.
In order to enhance the user-experience, FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint has an out-of-the-box functionality that allows visual search. This means that instead of opening the documents one by one, the results of a search can be previewed. The preview
will show relevant information such as title, short description, file size, as well as a thumbnail view that identifies the document type and author. This functionality can significantly reduce search time.

Faster Response Time for RFPs (Request for Proposal) and Better Win Rates
Leveraging the comprehensive SharePoint development platform, we were able to build a custom search-driven application integrated with the internal line of business solutions, centralize search taxonomy and improve document workflow. In practice, this means
that in addition to enabling our users with the right business information, we are able to increase the capacity for pre-sales requests from 30% to 50% annually, while still maintaining the same operational team size.
Low Cost of Ownership
One of the advantages of implementing Microsoft FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint in our company is that parts of our infrastructure use Microsoft technologies and solutions. Therefore, we took advantage of our present IT resources, which made it cheaper
for us to implement this solution.
For the company, implementing this project has proven to be a resounding success and has earned EPAM a spot on Information Week’s Top 250 Innovators in 2012.
