Microsoft Class Server: How to buy through a solution provider

Updated: April 13, 2007

In January 2007, Microsoft will release successor technology to Microsoft Class Server: The Microsoft SharePoint Learning Kit (SLK) for SharePoint 3.0 products and technologies. To facilitate a flexible solution designed to support customer development and extension, SLK will be released as a community-licensed project, available at no cost directly from Microsoft.

Microsoft recognizes that many of you will want to stay with SharePoint 2.0 and Class Server 4.0 for some time. To facilitate your continued use of Microsoft learning server products, Microsoft has arranged for the following changes to Class Server licensing effective July 1, 2006:

The requirement for Class Server CALs is being waived. You no longer need to purchase a CAL for each student or computer accessing Class Server.

You can buy one Class Server - Server license and deploy it on as many servers as you need to support your institution.

Class Server and Class Server - Server licenses are not transferable. And the new guidelines are limited to the licensed user per definition in the Product Use Rights (PUR) document.

You may purchase Class Server 4.0 licenses until January 1, 2007. Please see full PUR for details about this offer.

These licensing changes are designed to help you protect your investment in Class Server technology should you continue to need it after January 1, 2007. In addition, Microsoft believes that once you see the new Microsoft Learning Gateway solution with SLK and SharePoint 3.0, you will want to take advantage of the new features and functionality it offers right away.

To acquire a Microsoft® Class Server solution, contact one of these Microsoft-approved solution providers. All solutions listed below should be eligible for Federal funding in conjunction with No Child Left Behind.
