Estimated Pricing
Microsoft Forefront Client Security is available on a subscription basis with no upfront licensing cost. Below are the starting estimated retail prices for the Forefront Client Security Agent and the Management Console. Additional discounts are provided through Microsoft Volume Licensing.
Forefront Client Security uses Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition) to provide rich reporting on threats and on security state. SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition is needed to support more than 2,000 clients and can be purchased with the Server Subscription License (SSL) for Forefront Client Security as described above. Customers that purchase this SKU do not need to license SQL Server 2005 separately to use Forefront Client Security.
The Server Subscription License (SSL) for Forefront Client Security can also be purchased without SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition (1) for customers who already have a SQL Server deployment or (2) for small business customers that want to license SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition separately. See How to Buy Microsoft SQL Server 2005 for pricing information about SQL Server 2005.

Licensing Benefits
Updates and upgrades are included at no additional cost with the subscription.
Inclusion of Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 and SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition. The event logging and alerting system in Forefront Client Security is built on MOM 2005 technology, and the reporting system uses SQL Server 2005 (Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition). MOM 2005 and SQL Server 2005 Standard or Enterprise Edition, both restricted for use with Forefront Client Security, are included with the Management Console subscription. As a consequence, customers do not need to license MOM 2005 or SQL Server 2005 separately to use Forefront Client Security.
