The multiplayer portion of Dungeon Siege will allow players to play through the
entire single player world and the huge Utraean Peninsula multiplayer campaign either
alone or with friends. The Utraean Peninsula is considerably larger and contains
a unique storyline and accompanying quests that takes an adventurous band of up
to eight players across the vast expanses to locate the eight stones of Utrae.
Message from Microsoft Games Support
Microsoft Game Studios has made the decision to retire player matchmaking services for Dungeon Siege. We are proud to have hosted these services and would like to personally thank you for being loyal to our games. You will still be able to play your games and create matches within your game; however, matches will no longer be hosted by Microsoft Game Studios.
Best regards,
Microsoft Games Support
There are three methods of finding and playing multiplayer games. Games can
be played over a specialized Microsoft Zone interface called ZoneMatch, which will
provide an interface for sorting through available games, getting the latest news,
talking in chat rooms, or hosting a game to the players specifications. Players
can also connect using a direct IP address through the Internet option, which will
allow for chatting, joining, or creating games. Dungeon Siege may also be played
over a Local Area Network (LAN) using TCP/IP by selecting the Network option, allowing
players to add IP addresses to a list to search on their local network or host their
own game.
Hosting a game of Dungeon Siege will provide many options (via Map Settings
and Game Settings screens) to help tailor the game to a player's liking.
Map Settings will allow for selecting the map, such as The Kingdom of Ehb
or the Utraean Peninsula, and world difficulty. The world difficulty can be set
independently of the game difficulty. World difficulty options include: Regular,
which is the same difficulty as the single player campaign, Veteran with a minimum
character level of 54, or Elite with a minimum character level of 83.
The Game Settings screen will allow for choosing a time limit, number of
players, difficulty, and how items will drop on death. There are also check boxes
for enabling team play, player vs. player, ability for players to choose starting
location, restricting players to new characters, allowing players to pause the game,
and allowing join in progress.
The host also has the choice of password protecting the game. If needed, the
host can kick or ban players before or during the game at any time.
Joining a game is as simple as finding a game to play through ZoneMatch,
Internet, or over LAN. From there the player can chat with other players before
beginning the game, or join a game already in progress if the host has allowed it.
If the host has allowed importing of characters then the player may choose any of
their characters from any saved game they might have with a simple interface displaying
the character's name, portrait, class, and skills.
If the player needs to create a new character they may choose from male,
female, dwarf, or skeleton. Similar to the single player game, the player may create
their character's appearance by selecting their head, skin, hair, shirt, and pants
style.
