Kodak Captures End-to-End Processes Using Microsoft Management Solutions

Updated: October 4, 2004

Executive Summary

It’s hard for a business to maximize productivity when doesn’t have the latest snapshot of its business processes. That’s why Eastman Kodak Company turned to a Microsoft-based solution when it needed it needed a system to capture and analyze the end-to-end processes across its commercial and government systems operation.

Kodak focuses relentlessly on customer satisfaction, which means it must continually evaluate its processes to ensure its performance meets or exceeds expectations. To effectively address this demand, the commercial and government systems operation within Kodak needed software tools that simplified the process assessment cycle—collection, evaluation, and dissemination—and optimized process-related activities.

Kodak adopted systems designed by ProActivity Inc.—a Microsoft Office Visio solution provider—that develops software for business process discovery, design, analysis, and optimization.

Kodak was easily able to capture as-is business process data visually with Visio diagrams. The company created a new solution combining ProActivity Whiteboard for Microsoft Visio with ProActivity Enterprise Hub for Microsoft Visio. The integrated solution improved business processes and clearly communicated them to the right people.

“With the combination of Visio 2003 and ProActivity products, we can add value at any point in the process-assessment cycle, which enables process optimization at both functional and enterprise levels,” explained Brendan Regan, manager of business practices, for Kodak Commercial and Government Systems. “This illustrates how the whole is greater than separate, individual components.”

Using Visio technology Kodak was able to:

Take advantage of employees existing knowledge of Microsoft Office Visio to maximize its commercial and government systems process assessment cycle.

Integrates visual information into an end-to-end process model.

Save time by analyzing end-to-end process information stored in a central data repository.

Increase employee productivity by visually capturing consistent as-is process data with one solution.

Reduce cost of collecting, maintaining, and distributing process information.
