The Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan has summed up the results for «The Teacher of the Year 2005» contest. The sponsor of the contest is the Microsoft Kazakhstan Company, which supported the event in the frame of «The Partnership in Education» Program implemented jointly with the mentioned Ministry. LogyCom company, the Microsoft certified partner, has awarded the prize for the winner, which is self-assembled LogyCom Discovery notebook responding to all the up-to-date demands of portable devices as well as being compliant with world standard access to wireless network of data transmission.
The contest is aimed to find out broad minded people, who are creative, talented teachers with the high intellectual level, spiritual-moral, scientifically-methodical and informative culture.
The purposes of «The Teacher of the Year» contest are as follows:
| — | To rise the image of the teachers« profession. |
| — | To promote teachers« activity, self-sufficiency and creativity. |
| — | To find effective technologies and methods of education, breeding and development directing to the result and creating the atmosphere of co-creativity and partnership. |
| — | To distribute the positive practice. |
The participants of the contest are the teachers of winner schools in the regional cities, Astana and Almaty. They were required to submit the contest works made in the form of video clip containing the class work, extracurricular activities, master-class, and video clip entitled «Pedagogical Kaleidoscope» with the elements of teachers» day-to-day work in the school, parental community relations, and etc. to the jury.
The contest jury formed out of the independent experts and RK Ministry of Education and Science representatives evaluated the class work, extracurricular activities, and the master class according to the previously set criteria. Moreover, they paid the special attention at the methodical and scientific project of the research; the use of new pedagogical and informational training technologies; productivity monitoring of pedagogical activity; languages« competence; professional skills» improvement and advancement; the rate of international seminars» participation and computer skills.
According to the jury's decision the top places were allocated in the following way:
First place — S.Imzhanov, the Teacher of Economics, School-gymnasium #1, Astana. Mr. Imazhanov will take part in the World Forum of Innovative Teachers which to be held in U.S.A. in summer of 2006. He was awarded by the LogyCom Company notebook.
Second place — A.Turganalieva, the Teacher of Biology, Vocational School, Beneus district, Mangistau region, and A.Omirbek, the Teacher of History, Vocational School #3147, Almaty.
Third place — A.Kintsel, the Teacher of Biology, school of Stepnogorsk city, N.Zhumikeeva, the Teacher of the Boarding school #4, Atyrau region, and R.Bigazieva, the teacher of school #41, Uralsk.
The additional nominations were set, where the winners are the following teachers:
| — | Innovator Teacher — L.Pankratova, the Teacher of the Russian Language and Literature, Kostanay city. |
| — | Resource Teacher — N.Tolykbayeva, the Teacher of the Kazakh language, Karasay district, Almaty region. |
| — | Experimenter Teacher — S.Aitkazina, a teacher of school-lyceum #8 for gifted children, Pavlodar city. |
It is worthy to note that all 16 finalists of the contest were awarded by valuable prizes from Microsoft Company in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
Microsoft «The Partnership in Education» program operates in 98 countries worldwide. In December of 2004 Kazakhstan joined into this list. According to the signed Agreement on Cooperation with the RK Ministry of Education and Science the initiative on expansion of up-to-date informational technologies use in educational institutions is valid in Kazakhstan for 5 years.
In the frame of the program thousands of teachers from Republic of Kazakhstan will raise the level of professional qualification and advancement. Microsoft Company plans to provide nearly all secondary schools with guidance manuals aimed to improve educational process in schools. In addition, the software solutions aimed to improve and intensify the educational process itself and its regulation will be offered to the Program participants.
According to the RK Ministry of Education and Science: «The participation in „The Partnership in Education“ Program is the real opportunity to improve educational system. The Program not only contributes significantly to the educational process efficiency, but reduces the barriers for communication between the teachers of different educational institutions and countries as well.»
