Microsoft PlayReady is a content access technology that is optimized to help mobile operators, content service providers, handset and device manufacturers, independent software vendors (ISVs), and solution providers to create products and services for digital entertainment. Microsoft PlayReady enables a broad spectrum of business models, such as subscription, purchase, rental, and pay-per-view, to be applied to many digital content types and to a wide range of audio and video formats.

PlayReady is licensed on terms that offer excellent business value. Microsoft PlayReady provides the industry with a readily deployable implementation, including a well-documented Client Porting Kit with source code for hardware partners, a license server component designed to integrate easily into the operator's or service provider's existing infrastructure, and a PC application component to enable content access on personal computers running the Windows operating system.
