Customize Surface and app settings

Settings control nearly everything about how your Surface looks and works. You can also add users, add devices, or set up family safety. By adjusting settings, you can customize your Surface to work the way you want.

Change Surface settings

There are a few different ways to find and change your settings:

• PC settings
• Control Panel
• Search

Tip  In Windows RT and Windows 8, common settings are included in PC settings, so try checking there first. If you don’t see the setting you need, search for Control Panel and you will find more settings there.

Here's how to get to PC settings:

1. Open the Settings charm, and then tap or click Change PC Settings.
2. Tap or click a settings group on the left to browse your settings.
   

Here's how to find individual settings using Search:

1. Open the Search charm.
2. Tap or click Settings.
3. Enter a word or phrase in the Search box. For example, to find sound-related settings type sound.
4. Select from the list of results on the left.

Here's how to change settings from Control Panel:

1. From the Start screen, open the Search charm.
2. Enter Control Panel in the search box, and then tap or click Control Panel.
3. Browse the settings and select the one you want to change.

Here's how to change settings from Control Panel:

1. From the Start screen, open the Search charm.
2. Enter Control Panel in the search box, and then tap or click Control Panel.
3. Browse the settings and select the one you want to change.

Change app settings

You can use settings in an app to change preferences, find help, and add accounts.

1. Open the app.
2. Open the Settings charm.
3. View the list of app-specific settings and make the changes you want.
