P3P Privacy Statement

Updated: May 16, 2007

P3P Privacy Statement

The Platform for Privacy Preferences (P3P) is a machine-readable privacy statement supported by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). P3P-enabled sites make privacy statements available in a standard, machine-readable format that P3P-enabled browsers can access.

Web sites implement P3P on their servers by translating their human-readable privacy policies into an Extensible Markup Language (XML) schema that user agents can read. Users can then set preferences to automatically be informed of site practices without reading privacy policies for every site they visit.

Vendor sites linking to Microsoft.com sites must offer customers a P3P statement. Resources for implementing P3P include:

W3C References for P3P Implementations (w3.org)

Privacy Online P3P Policy Wizard (nmda.or.jp)

IBM P3P Policy Editor (alphaworks.ibm.com)
