Trustworthy Computing is Microsoft’s companywide approach to create and deliver secure, private, and reliable computing experiences for everyone.

As one example of how we work to promote online privacy and safety, Microsoft offered the first major internet browser to help consumers be in control of potential online tracking as they move around the Web with the development of the "Tracking Protection" feature in Internet Explorer 9.

Even as more people and businesses rely on computing every day, the threats that can undermine trust in computing are increasingly sophisticated and malicious. We continually evolve our approach to meet this challenge and remain an industry leader in privacy, safety, and security. We believe fundamentally that sensitive data and personal information must be protected, that software businesses adhere to business practices that promote trust, and that the technology industry renews its focus on solid engineering and best practices to ensure the delivered product or service is more reliable and secure.

With more and more personal information being stored and transferred online, the stakes for privacy and data security keep getting higher.

As a core corporate value, we are committed to continually improving in four key areas: Security, Privacy, Reliability, and Business Practices.

As part of our commitment to corporate citizenship, we have also adopted a Freedom of Expression policy built on international human rights laws and standards which applies across all Microsoft's online and communication services. We work collaboratively with human rights advocates and industry peers in the Global Network Initiative to address challenges to online freedom of expression.
