The High School Internship Program was established in 1991 as a way to encourage and empower underrepresented youth through summertime employment with large corporations. This experience exposes students to corporate culture and teaches them about the use of technology in the workplace. The long-term goal of the program is to track these students through college and to help them prepare for their future careers.
At Microsoft, the internship program has become a pipeline for exposing underrepresented youth to technology and for encouraging them to consider careers in the high-tech industry. The program is currently open only to select Puget Sound area students but may be expanded in the future.
