Microsoft recognizes the importance of encouraging young people to become interested in information technology—not only so that they are better prepared for the future, but also so that they can continue the tradition of innovation.

K–12 Program Opportunities

Microsoft offers several programs that provide students in kindergarten through twelfth grade with opportunities to interact with today's technology and learn about careers in the high-tech industry. The programs include opportunities for workplace visits and tours, career days, technology camps, job shadowing, and summer internships.

•	Career Day for High School Students with Disabilities and Disability Mentoring Day. These events encourage students to pursue careers in computer science and related technical fields, and they expose students to accessible technologies that help facilitate communication, learning, and work. •	DigiGirlz Programs for girls. These programs were developed to expose more girls to the many career possibilities available in technology. They connect young women with women role models in the high-tech workplace and provide hands-on technology training.
•	High School Internship Program. The high school internship program is available for local students in the Puget Sound area. Students work on cutting-edge technology that will make a difference in people's lives all over the world. To participate, students must apply and be accepted into the program.
•	Job shadowing. This program provides young people in the Puget Sound area with direct access to Microsoft employees to learn what day-to-day work is like at the company.
•	Minority Student Day. This event, hosted by the Blacks at Microsoft (BAM) employee affinity group, is geared toward motivating local Puget Sound minority students to pursue careers in information technology.
•	Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. Sponsored nationally by the Ms. Foundation for Women, this event is devoted to inspiring girls and boys to pursue higher education and career opportunities through visits to their parents' workplaces.
•	Workplace tours and visits with Microsoft employees. Microsoft partners with various schools, community organizations, and government agencies to offer students an inside look at Microsoft and the different career opportunities in technology.
