How-to: Keyboards

How do I connect a wired/wireless Microsoft device to my computer?

When you install and open Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center, the supported Microsoft mice and keyboards connected to your computer are automatically detected and displayed. If you add a new supported device or disconnect an existing one, the device images displayed in the UI are automatically updated.

Install batteries

  • If you are using a wireless device, remove the battery cover and install new alkaline batteries.

For information on how to do this, see the Quick Start Guide that came with your Microsoft device. For safety information, see the Product Guide.

Turn on the device

  • After installing the batteries, if your device has a power switch, turn it on. For information on how to do this, see the Quick Start Guide.
  • When not in use, turn off the power switch to save the battery.

Connect your device to your computer

  • Insert the connector into a USB port on your computer. Some devices come with a storage compartment for the transceiver. For information on how to remove this, see the Quick Start Guide.
  • If your device comes with a storage compartment for the transceiver, you can either leave the transceiver in your computer or store it when not in use.
