Microsoft wants to help ignite African innovation for the continent and for the world. We are committed to working closely with African ISVs and developers to accelerate the development of highly relevant Windows 8 and Windows Phone apps – by Africans, for Africa. We are investing in developers to enable them to get access to the technology, mentorship, connections, and go-to-market support they need to thrive.
Microsoft believes that there are many people in Africa with a great idea but who simply don't have the development time or resource to take it to the next level. With an intention to help bridge that gap, Microsoft has come up with different initiatives that suite each African developer to take their ideas to the next level.
AppFactory interns are being provided with deep training on how to develop best-in-class applications for Windows 8 and Windows Phone using Windows Azure, the latest in Cloud Computing. At the end of their internship, Microsoft plans to help them secure jobs in our partner community or to create their own business if they choose. Youth unemployment is a critical issue in Africa and around the world, so helping to address this is also core to the AppFactory effort.
