Huang received his PhD in experimental condensed matter physics focusing on organic light emitting materials and photonic crystals from Prof. Vardeny's group (one of the pioneering groups in OLED) at University of Utah. He also received a Master degree in Optics and Bachelor degree in Applied Physics, both from Shanghai Jiaotong University in China.
Before joining Microsoft, Huang had been working in Sharp Laboratories of America, Georgia Institute of Technology and JDS Uniphase Corp, performing researches in various topics related to Optics and Photonics, such as displays, green energy (solar cells and solar water splitting), fiber optics, silicon photonics and bio-imaging, etc.. Huang has a strong curiosity on understanding the interactions between photons and materials and structures and has been trying to use the understanding to solve everyday challenges by creating better displays, faster optical transmissions, more efficient solar cells, and highly effective optical imaging/sensing systems.
Huang enjoys sports, playing basketballs, table tennis, badminton and tennis, etc. and has two lovely kids.
