Pablo Sala is a computer vision researcher in the Microsoft Applied Sciences Group.
Sala is currently a PhD candidate at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto. He holds a M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the University of Toronto, where he worked in visual robot navigation problems, and a Licentiate in Computer Science degree from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he worked on algorithms for solving large systems of linear equations with application in computer tomography.
In 2006, he did an internship in Microsoft Research developing robust methods to segment and read highly dense two-dimensional barcodes under challenging imaging conditions. This research, applied to a much less challenging problem, is the foundation of Microsoft Tag.
His research interests are in computer vision and machine learning, particularly object recognition, image segmentation, perceptual grouping and shape abstraction, as well as shape modeling, indexing, and matching.
In his free time, Sala enjoys going out with his family, as well as watching movies.
