Director of Research
Tim Large is an optical engineer in the Applied Sciences Group at Microsoft Corp., where he works on the development of displays and sensors for human-computer interfaces.
Before joining Microsoft, Large worked for The Technology Partnership and Nortel Networks. While at Nortel, he lead a team that adapted landline systems for use on long-distance unrepeatered links, including a system he helped design for the north English Channel, the Irish Sea, the Philippines and Taiwan.
For five years, Large ran a small consulting business specializing in optical systems and component design. The company worked on displays, sensors, spectrometers, lighting systems and adaptive optics. Large has authored an extensive number of patents, including an electronic spectacle lens that recently was launched to market.
Large holds a Bachelor of Arts in Natural Sciences with a specialization in Physics from Christ’s College in Cambridge, England.
