Project kit: Make chic custom cards on your computer

Introduction

Images of cards you can make

These cards only look professional. You can easily make them yourself—with your computer and printer—for a fraction of the cost you'd pay to custom order similar cards.Simply provide personal details or added graphics—or both! You can even add three-dimensional embellishments, like candles, for an extra elegant touch.

In this article, I cover the basics of making cards, and then I give two examples of customized cards you can make. Easiest and (ironically) most professional looking are those made with my special "digital embossing" technique. They are made with ordinary notecards you can pick up at the grocery store! Before you get started, refer to the "Basic card making" refresher, which covers how you can use a graphics or publishing program to create cards. It also provides quick printing tips to help ensure that your cards look their best.

Tami Peterson Lewiski's first book, Digital Decorating, prompted The Wall Street Journal to draw comparisons with Martha Stewart. That diva's domestic crown, however, is of no interest to Tami. Digital Home Arts is her trademark and, as one magazine reviewer put it, "Tami wields her printer like a great artist wields a paintbrush: fearlessly!" She's shown her innovative techniques for creating sophisticated home furnishings and stylish entertaining as a guest on many Home & Garden Television (HGTV) programs, including The Carol Duvall Show.
