About APC 2013

From the keynote address given by Pip Marlow, it was clear that this year’s APC in Cairns was going to be a watershed moment. Not just because the event is celebrating its 21st anniversary, but also because of the rapid pace of change within Microsoft, the industry and the customer landscape.

This year’s theme was ‘Own tomorrow’, with a strong focus on Microsoft’s devices and services strategy. Kicking off the event, Pip Marlow brought that strategy to life. She spoke about how partners needed to embrace the cloud more and recognised the importance of becoming better partners to customers. She also shed light on the innovative transformations underway in Microsoft.

The three-day event covered a lot of ground – partners were invited to participate in sessions across four tracks aligned to the four IDC megatrends.

Each day opened with a key speaker: Josh Waldo, Senior Director Cloud Strategy from the Partner Group opened the second day’s sessions with a discussion round profitability in the cloud. On Day Three, Mark Linton, Senior Director of Product Management and Business Development from the OEM Division spoke about the role partners can play in selling devices.

Closing the event was Mike Walsh: futurist, technologist and “kind-of” anthropologist who gave a provocative and entertaining presentation on technology, innovation and disruption.
