What is the Microsoft Dynamics Industry Solutions (MDIS) program?

Microsoft works together with select ISVs to develop Microsoft Dynamics AX software solutions for a number of specific industries.

To meet the high standards of Microsoft's customers around the world, ISVs that partner with Microsoft are required to demonstrate overall business stability and fiscal accountability, a solution development process that uses Microsoft best practices, and readiness in providing global support. Solutions that are developed through the Microsoft Dynamics Industry Solutions program meet Microsoft's strict quality standards and are packaged with a Microsoft-backed customer support offering. In addition, these solutions are sold off the Microsoft Dynamics AX price list.

Depend on Microsoft quality standards and testing

By working closely with Microsoft as part of the program, ISVs follow the Microsoft development path. All solutions in the program must meet specifications defined by Microsoft development and quality assurance staff and are independently tested by a third-party company. An in-depth analysis validates that development of each solution follows Microsoft best practices (for example, those of Microsoft Dynamics AX and Microsoft .NET). This extensive testing means that the solutions meet the Microsoft standards, so you can count on certain basic solution requirements such as efficient backup/restore, usability, scalability, and security. All Microsoft Dynamics Industry Solutions are tested in these areas:

Design, documentation, coding, security, and localization

Capability to be deployed and supported

Scalability and upgradeability, including service packs

Get up and running fast

Unlike some programs offered by Microsoft competitors, this program gives customers a single source for product support from qualified experts. Microsoft Dynamics Industry Solutions support contracts cover both the Microsoft Dynamics AX core modules and the Microsoft Dynamics Industry Solution program component.

A single point of contact also helps to ensure that your solution gets up and running fast and efficiently. Partners responsible for the initial implementation are instructed to use a software architect from the company that developed the solution until they get enough experience to pass the implementation certification process.

Get more value from the latest technology

Microsoft focuses on bringing you a core business software solution with a broad selection of the best new technology. Microsoft ISVs focus on extending that core solution with powerful functionality to support your industry-specific needs so you can maintain your competitive advantage. And the whole development process is coordinated to help make sure you get the best new technology on a regular basis.

ISVs in the program are committed to supporting every new Microsoft Dynamics AX release. For that reason, Microsoft tests the ISVs for their ability to upgrade solutions. The test includes the following areas:

Ability to properly place (and locate later) any customizations

Database upgrade scripts

File versioning

Creation of list of all modified forms and methods

Documentation of all integration points with the core Microsoft Dynamics AX product
