Microsoft Australia Education - Partners In Learning - Fostering Local Innovation

Developing a new environment for digital education takes more than putting computers in classrooms and funding school construction. It requires ongoing research and evaluation of our programs and methodologies, as well as the exploration of innovative technologies in the classroom.

  • Thought Leadership and Innovation

    • Kodu (visual programming language for Xbox)
Watch students develop the critical and creative thinking skills to program their own video games in Kodu.
    • Educators using Surface – Churchend Primary School
Watch how quickly students become excited, engaged and ready to learn using new technology in their classroom.
    • Educators using Surface – Microsoft Research Cambridge

Microsoft, in partnership with Ideas Lab and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development in Victoria, ran a pilot across 26 schools and thousands of students from October-December 2009, where they explored Kodu, the Xbox programming language. Each school explored deploying the following teaching and learning strategies:

    • Exploring the current games to learn what can be created
    • Taking programming and design challenges
    • Working through tutorials or set curriculum

Joe Stewart, teacher at St. James Primary School NSW, has taken on the challenge of engaging today’s computer-savvy students. He believes in the power of technology in the classroom and has pioneered the use of Microsoft Mouse Mischief, an add-in to Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 and Microsoft PowerPoint 2010. His students love the program and are more engaged and Stewart can instantly assess their understanding, while getting through material faster. Have a look at the following case study to find out more about Joe’s fantastic achievements.

This program aims to challenge the way we think about learning and teaching, and find new ways to take technology into the classroom. It is a unique partnership between top-tier technology companies, universities and government bodies.
