Microsoft Australia Education - Partners In Learning - Schools

Innovative Schools Overview

Print page

The core offering of the Partners in Learning initiative is the Innovative Schools program – a collaborative partnership between Microsoft Australia, Australian State governments and Australian schools. The Innovative Schools program uses grassroots, classroom-tested experience to develop models any school can use to integrate technology into their classrooms and make student learning more accessible, relevant and engaging.

  • Worldwide Program

    Innovative Schools Worldwide

Schools who participate in the Innovative Schools program become part of a global network where they can access and share expertise, knowledge and experience to create an evolving body of knowledge. The program includes a structured research component, as well as dedicated support from mentors, coaches and internationally recognised educational thought leaders.

    Global Mentor and Pathfinder Schools

Australian schools are very well represented among our international peers. There are currently eight worldwide Partners in Learning schools in Australia.

    • Partners in Learning: Worldwide innovative schools
    • Mentor School: Hermit Park State School, Queensland
    • Mentor School: Silverton Primary School, Victoria
    • Mentor School: Dallas Primary School, Victoria

Mentor Schools are invited to join a select group of schools worldwide, each committed to attending worldwide events, participating in case studies and mentoring other Pilot schools. Pathfinder Schools have demonstrated a strong capacity for innovation and participate in the global development community, as well as local, regional and worldwide workshops

  • Australian Program

Now in its second year, the Innovative Schools Program is working closely with Australian schools to help inspire creative thinking, discover best practices and create models that any school, in any system, can use to develop 21st century learning.

In Australia, there are two levels to the program:

Pilot Schools - Each year, State Departments of Education select 20 schools from across Australia to work with its experts and other innovative schools in an intensive process of reform. The Pilot schools for 2010 have already been selected.

Participating Schools - Any school can become a Participating School. To get started, you can access a wealth of complimentary resources available on the Innovative Schools toolkit web site. Additionally, your school can access a collaboration portal containing complimentary content, discussions, resources, teaching tools and advice from educational leaders and experts, all through the Partners in Learning Network web site.

When we announced that we were successful in becoming our Innovative Pathfinder school, the community clapped and cheered. To them it’s an affirmation that we believe that children in disadvantaged areas are important and can learn – that their postcode is not their destiny.

  • The 6i Process

The Innovative Schools program is driven by our unique 6i Process, an effective framework for decision making that guides each school in finding the right answers for their particular situation. The process covers Introspection, Investigation, Inclusion, Innovation, Implementation and Insight, with each phase occupying a different part of the two-year program.
