Agenda

Introductions

We discuss what vision participants have for technology, teaching and skills development.

Imperatives for change

We look at what is driving change in education today, with a particular focus on the skills students will need to prosper in the 21st century. We take a global perspective, looking at different education trends, common challenges and some interesting research initiatives being led by Microsoft and others.

Key learning scenarios

We examine a variety of scenarios where combinations of particular technologies and teaching techniques stimulate the development of key skills. The scenarios focus on:

  • Enhancing learning for collaboration and problem solving
  • Modes of learning
  • Critical thinking and managing information
  • Feedback and assessment
  • Extending learning communities

The scenarios are interspersed with case studies and examples from Australian schools, including: Varsity College, Queensland; Immanuel College; and Prince Alfred College, South Australia. We will review some of the software as well as devices currently being used and trialled in schools. Software includes, Microsoft Office 2010, Microsoft Office OneNote, Movie Maker, Photosynth, Microsoft Math 4.0, plus others as well as hardware from our education partners.
