A global research program co-sponsored by Microsoft Partners in Learning defined six key skills.

Critical Thinking Effective thinkers question and test propositions and ideas, examining them from different angles to see if they stand up.
Digital Literacy More and more, students need to be able to use technology to research ideas, express their thoughts, design and create.
Collaboration In today's team-oriented society, collaboration is key. It's more than simply helping each other: students share responsibility for their work.
Love of Learning A crucial skill in a child's development and one that will influence their capacity and interest in continued study throughout life.
Communication Being able to communicate effectively is critical to students' ability to interact, set and accomplish goals.
Problem Solving It's important for students to find solutions, complete tasks and design products - without receiving all the answers up front.
