  1. Upload your film (maximum 7-minute) to the Screened YouTube Channel via our 'Upload Film' tab on this site.
  2. Fill in the Registration Form, making sure you include:
    Main student representative's name and student email address
    Up to nine other cast and crew members
    The name of the film you uploaded to the Screened YouTube Channel.
  3. Enter as many films as you like, but remember they all must include the theme '7'.

Al Clark
The Producer of Red Hill, Al Clark is an extremely accomplished figure in the Australian film Industry. He produced one of Australia's most successful films of all time, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and was executive producer for Chopper. His other Australian productions include Siam Sunset, The Hard Word, The Book of Revelation and Razzle Dazzle. Al Clark's work has appeared at Cannes, Berlin, Toronto, Telluride, London and San Sebastian Film Festival. Before Red Hill his most recent film was Blessed, which won the Jury Prize for Best Screenplay at the 2009 San Sebastian Film Festival, and is a featured title at Seattle 2010.

Richard Gray
Since graduating from the VCA School of Film and Television, Richard Gray has quickly established himself as a sought-after writer and director. In the last three years, Richard has directed two feature-length documentaries, a comedy series pilot, an eight-part reality/drama series, and has written two feature screenplays. Richard's screenplay for Summer Coda was runner-up in Project Greenlight Australia in 2007, and he has won several awards for his short film Yellow Brick Dreams at local and international film festivals. Released in October 2010, Richard's debut feature film Summer Coda, stars Rachael Taylor, Alex Dimitriades, Susie Porter, Nathan Phillips, Angus Sampson and Jacki Weaver.

Gabriel Dowrick
Gabriel Dowrick is an award-winning Sydney based freelance editor of television commercials, short films and music videos. Gabriel has two feature films currently in development and recent work includes; a feature length making of doco for the film Animal Kingdom for Porchlight Films and Madman; The AFC funded award-winning short film Nice Shootin Cowboy, directed by Ben Phelps and produced by John Maynard from Arena Film; A Parachute Falling In Siberia, a Dendy Award nominated NSW FTO short directed by Ian Meadows and produced by Sarah Shaw.

Cameron D'Arcy
Working up through the ranks of postproduction, Cameron's technical and organisational skills have seen him gain experience in a wide range of film disciplines. Most notably, Cameron worked closely with Baz Luhrman as a HD preview colourist on Australia. He also fine-tuned these skills as the dailies colourist on Wolverine. Cameron produced music videos for the musical-dance troupe The Next Step. Since then, he has also co-produced their sell-out show The Next Step Live at the Metro Theatre and produced several music videos for other Australian artists. He also co-produced the feature $quid (Starring Josh Lawson and Ed Kavalee) which is currently in post-production.

Your Questions Answered
What is SCREENed?
It is a Microsoft initiative to provide a platform for students to create and showcase their films in the form of an online film festival.

Who is eligible to enter films into the SCREENed?
Students currently enrolled in at least one unit at an Australian University, TAFE or College. No International entries will be eligible to win.

When is the deadline to enter a film into the SCREENed?
The deadline for entries is Monday, 8 November 2010.

What is this year's theme?
The themed for SCREENed 2010 is '7'.

What is the maximum length for a film entered into SCREENed?
Maximum length is 7-minutes, including titles and credits.

What is the minimum length for a film entered into SCREENed?
There is no minimum length required.

Can I enter more than one film into SCREENed?
Yes. There is no restriction on the number of entries that can be entered per student.

Can I enter a film that has previously been screened publicly?
No. The submitted entry must be your film's first public screening. It can't have been shown at any other film festival, or made available on free-to-air or pay television, in cinemas, on the internet or any other public arena.

Is there a certain format we have to shoot in?
You can shoot your film on any format you want as long as it complies with YouTube specifications.

Does it cost anything to enter?
No. SCREENed is free to enter.

How will entries be judged?
Entries will be individually judged by the SCREENed judging panel based on a combination of originality, creativity and ability to incorporate the theme.

When will I know if I've won?
Winners will be announced on 15 November 2010 and will be notified by email.
HOW TO ENTER
  1. Entry is open to individuals or teams of up to 10 individuals who meet the eligibility criteria set out in these terms and conditions. An entrant may be an individual or a Student Film Entry Team (as defined below) ('Entrant').
  2. To be eligible to enter, each individual entrant and each individual team member must be an Australian resident and a student who is enrolled in at least one subject at an Australian University, College or TAFE at the time of entry and for the duration of the competition referred to in clause 3 below. The Main Student Representative (as that term is defined below) must also be registered to upload videos to YouTube. The friends that you take along to any of the prizes do not have to be students.
  3. The competition commences 9am (AEST) 6 September 2010, and closes 5pm (AEST) 8 November 2010. ('Promotion Period')
  4. To enter, each Entrant must, during the Promotion Period:
    1. create an original short film, no greater than 7-minutes in length (including titles and credits) that adheres to the 2010 theme, '7', and upload the 'Student Film Entry' via the 'Upload Film' tab on the Screened website on YouTube at www.screen-ed.com.au,("Screened Competition Website"); and
    2. complete the entry form as prompted after uploading the Student Film Entry to the Screened Competition Website (including providing details of all members of the Student Film Entry Team as defined in Clause 6 below); and ensure that the Student Film Entry complies with the Screened Terms and Conditions, including the terms and conditions set out herein.
  5. Entrants may enter more than one film but must complete a separate Student Film Entry for each film. Each film can only be entered once. Each Student Film Entry will be considered as a separate entry and will be considered individually and judged accordingly.
  6. Each Student Film Entry must be uploaded and registered by a nominated Main Student Representative. In the case of an individual Entrant, the Main Student Representative must be the individual Entrant. In the case of a team Entrant, one individual team member must be nominated as the Main Student Representative. During the registration process Main Student Representative must submit the names of the other team members (to a maximum 9 other team members). ('Student Film Entry Team')All entries must adhere to the laws of Australia and its states and territories (including intellectual property laws). By entering this competition, each Entrant and in the case of a Student Film Entry Team, each member of the team undertakes that he or she will not infringe or violate someone else's rights, violate any applicable laws, or publish material that is not, in the opinion of Microsoft in its absolute discretion, socially acceptable. Each Entrants, and in the case of a Student Film Entry Team, each member of the team, indemnifies Microsoft for any loss suffered as a result of their respective Student Film Entry infringing or violating someone else's rights, or otherwise violating any applicable laws.
  7. All entries will be reviewed by the Promoter before being published to the public on the Screened Competition Website. Further, any Student Film Entry may be removed from the Screened Competition Website by Microsoft if Microsoft considers it to be in breach of these Terms and Conditions. This is at Microsoft's absolute discretion and no correspondence will be entered into. In addition, each Entrant and in the case of a Student Film Entry Team, each member of the team acknowledges that Microsoft and/or YouTube may remove any content in accordance with YouTube terms (available at (www.youtube.com/t/terms), and that Microsoft has no control over YouTube's removal, nor will Microsoft be liable for any removal by either party.
  8. Each Entrant, and in the case of a Student Film Entry Team, each member of the team agrees that he or she will not:
    1. defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate the legal rights (such as rights of privacy and publicity) of others;
    2. publish, post, upload, distribute or disseminate any inappropriate, profane, defamatory, obscene, indecent or unlawful topic, name, material or information; and/or
    3. violate any applicable laws or regulations.
  9. By submitting a Student Film Entry, each Entrant, and in the case of a Student Film Entry Team, each member of the team grants Microsoft a non-exclusive licence to use the Student Film Entry, or any part thereof, in all media in perpetuity. Each Entrant, and in the case of a Student Film Entry Team, each member of the team warrants that it or they holds or hold all applicable rights in the Student Film Entry to grant this licence. For the avoidance of doubt, this includes the entire Student Film Entry, and does not only include the portion of the Student Film Entry that appears on the Screened Competition Website. Each Entrant, and in the case of a Student Film Entry Team, each member of the team acknowledges that, by granting Microsoft this licence, Microsoft can use these entries in any marketing or promotional material in all media in perpetuity without liability to the entrant, including liability to compensate the entrant for their use.
  10. To be eligible for a prize, each Student Film Entry must be original and can't have been previously screened to the public. This means that the Student Film Entry must not have been screened at any other film festival, or made available on free-to-air or pay television, in cinemas, on the internet or any other public arena.
    JUDGING CRITERIA
  11. Each Student Film Entry will be individually judged by the 'Screened Judging Panel' on a combination of originality, creativity, and ability to incorporate the set theme. The Screened Judging Panel will determine the winner of the Best Film Major Prize (as defined in Clause 14 of these Terms and Conditions 'Best Film Major Prize Winner'), the Most Original Screenplay prize (as defined in Clause 15 of these Terms and Conditions 'Most Original Screenplay Winner') and the Best Use of Theme (as defined in Clause 16 of these Terms and Conditions 'Best Use of Theme Major Prize Winner').
  12. This is a game of skill and chance plays no part in determining the Winner.
  13. The decision of Microsoft and the Screened Judging Panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
    PRIZES
  14. 14. Subject to compliance with these Terms and Conditions the Student Film Entry which is judged as the 'Best Film Major Prize Winner' in accordance with the Judging Process described in Clause 11 of these Terms and Conditions, will win the major prize ('Major Prize'): The Major Prize sponsor, Sony Pictures Releasing, will offer the Entrant or the Student Film Entry Team which submitted the Best Film Major Prize Winner a, private screening of RED HILL (MA15+), prior to the release, with catering included, for a maximum of 20 people, together with, a meet the filmmaker experience with writer, producer, editor of Red Hill, Patrick Hughes. The screening date and time is subject to print availability and will be scheduled at a time that is mutually agreed upon with the winner and Sony Pictures Releasing. Should the Entrant or the Student Film Entry Team which submitted the Best Film Major Prize Winner not be able to accept or redeem the Major Prize after reasonable attempts have been made by Microsoft and Sony Pictures Releasing to provide the Major Prize to the Entrant or the Student Film Entry Team, another prize winner will be selected. The meet the filmmaker experience with writer, director, producer and editor, Patrick Hughes, in person is subject to the availability of Patrick Hughes. If Patrick Hughes is unable to attend the private screening due to circumstances beyond his or Microsoft's control a 'Skype video' call will be arranged at a time that is convenient for both parties. The total value of the Major Prize is $7000.
  15. Subject to compliance with these Terms and Conditions the Student Film Entry which is judged as the Winner of the 'Most Original Screenplay' category, in accordance with the judging process described in Clause 11 of these Terms and Conditions, will win the Most Original Screenplay prize ('Most Original Screenplay Prize'): Sharmill Films and Jump Street Films, will offer the Entrant or the Student Film Entry Team which submitted the Most Original Screenplay the chance to win a Masterclass with writer and director of Sharmill Films and Jump Street Films' Summer Coda (MA15+), Richard Gray. Prize includes a special one-on-one Masterclass session with Richard Gray. The one-on-one Masterclass with Richard Gray is subject to Richard's availability. If Richard Gray is unable to attend the Masterclass, alternate arrangements will be made at a time that is convenient for all parties. Should the Entrant or the Student Film Entry Team which is the winner of the Most Original Screenplay Prize not be able to accept or redeem the Major Prize after reasonable attempts have been made by Microsoft Sharmill Films and Jump Street Films to provide the Most Original Screenplay Prize to the Entrant or the Student Film Entry Team, another prize winner will be selected.
  16. Subject to compliance with these Terms and Conditions the Student Film Entry which is judged Winner of the 'Best Use of Theme' category in accordance with the judging process described in Clause 11 of these Terms and Conditions will win the Best Use of Theme prize ('Best Use of Theme Prize'): Microsoft will offer the Entrant or the Student Film Entry Team whose Student Film Entry which wins Best Use of Theme Prize a Microsoft Entertainment Package, including 2 x Windows 7 Laptops (HP DM3), 3 x Xbox 360 Elite Consoles, 3 x Windows 7 Ultimate FPP and 3 x Windows Phone 7 Series handsets.
  17. Collectively the Best Film, Most Original Screenplay and Best Use of Theme prizes are herein referred to as the 'Prizes'.
  18. Prizes must be taken as offered and cannot be varied. The Prizes are not exchangeable, transferable or redeemable for cash. If Microsoft, Sony Pictures, Sharmill Films or Jump Street Films are unable to supply the nominated Prizes or any part thereof, Microsoft reserves the right to supply another prize of greater or equal value. Each prize is offered subject to these Terms and Conditions, and the Terms and Conditions of any relevant third party involved in the provision of the prize.
  19. Any and all associated costs incurred by the Prizes winners during the use of the Prizes (including call costs, internet costs, travel) not expressly provided for in these Terms and Conditions are to be paid by the Prizes winners.
  20. If a winner of a Prize is under the age of 18 years, the prize will be awarded to the winner subject to the prior written consent of the winner's parent or legal guardian. Microsoft may make such inquires as it deems necessary to satisfy itself that such consent has been obtained.
  21. The total maximum prize pool for the 'Major Prize' is $7000. The stated prize value is the recommended retail value (including GST) in Australia as provided by the supplier and is correct at the time of printing. Microsoft accepts no responsibility for any variation in the value of the prize. Microsoft and its associated agencies and companies accept no responsibility for prizes damaged or lost in transit.
  22. Winners of the Prizes will be notified via email, using the email address supplied during the registration process.
  23. Prize winners are announced 15 November 2010. In the event that the Prizes are not claimed by 22 November 2010 Microsoft will select in its absolute discretion an alternate winner.
  24. Any costs associated with entering the competition and accessing the website are the responsibility of the entrant.
  25. The promoter assumes no responsibility for, and each Entrant releases the promoter from responsibility for, any failure to receive an entry or for inaccurate information or for any loss, claim, damage or injury to person or property (including computer systems and servers) as a result of the entrant's participation in this promotion or the conduct of the promotion generally or as a direct or indirect result of an entrant's error, any technical problem of any kind including communications or network failure, unauthorised access to, transferring or theft of data, whether caused by the entrant or associated with the equipment or programming used in the conduct of this promotion. If, because of any such problem, this promotion is not able to be conducted as planned and/or the promotion's administration, security, fairness or integrity are compromised or affected, the promoter may cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the promotion and/or disqualify any entrant involved in interfering or tampering with the conduct of this promotion in any way.

Details from all entries will be collected and used for the purposes of conducting this promotion (which may include disclosure to third parties for the purpose of processing and conducting the promotion) and for publicity purposes surrounding this promotion. These details include the Entrant's name, location, university and what they are studying. By entering this promotion entrants consent to the use of their information as described. Entrants may access and/or change their data by following the procedures in the promoter's privacy policy which is available at www.microsoft.com/australia/privacy. The promoter will only use personal details for marketing purposes outside those described above if you 'opt in' to join the mailing list when prompted.
