Since its beginning in 2003, Imagine Cup has grown to become one of the greatest global competitions for students. It’s the chance to showcase your ideas and know-how on the world stage – and tackle some of the world’s toughest problems using technology. It doesn’t matter what degree you’re studying at Uni or TAFE, get a group of mates together and dream big!
Winning teams receive cash prizes, mentoring and other support to help make their dreams a reality. Past winners have attracted venture capital and opened businesses based on their entries. At the 2011 Imagine Cup worldwide finals, cash prizes of $215 000 and a $3 million, 3-year grant were awarded to 15 global finalists.
Previous winners have come up with a diverse range of ideas, including an application that helps search-and-rescue teams coordinate their efforts during natural disasters, a video game encouraging people to volunteer, and navigation software allowing physically disabled people to overcome obstacles by identifying barrier-free routes through cities.
Making it to the finals has kick-started many careers. For hundreds of students, the experience gained while developing their ideas,
the confidence that comes with presenting their innovations, and the access to influential business leaders have been life-changing.
