How do I enter the Imagine Cup?
To enter, first you need to take a few moments to register. Also, because Imagine Cup is a worldwide competition, all registration is handled by the international Imagine Cup website.

How do I edit my profile?
Once you’ve registered, you can log-in via the international Imagine Cup website to edit your profile etc. You can find the "My Profile" link located in the top right corner of the screen, or in the submenu of "My Stuff".

Do all the team members have to be from the same school?
No.

What development environments can I use?
Any Imagine Cup entry that includes some kind of integrated
development environment (IDE) requires that you use the Visual Studio family (Express, Standard, or Team System) for development. Please see the individual invitational pages for their exact requirements.

How do I enter the other Imagine Cup challenges besides software development?
In addition to software development, there are eight other Imagine Cup challenges worldwide. You and your team are more than welcome to enter any of these challenges through the Imagine Cup worldwide website.

What is the Imagine Cup?
The world’s premier student technology competition, Imagine Cup, is one way Microsoft is encouraging young people to apply their imagination, their passion and their creativity to technology innovations that can make a difference in the world. Now in its fourth year, the Imagine Cup has grown to be a global event. In 2006, more than 65,000 students from 100 countries entered the competition.

How many students participated in last year’s Imagine Cup?
More than 65,000 students from 100 countries entered the competition in 2006. There were more than 181 competitors from 72 teams
representing 44 countries in India.
What happens if Microsoft is forced to cancel the event for any reason?
If the Imagine Cup finals are cancelled for any reason, Microsoft will provide the stated prize minus the opportunity to compete in the finals, Microsoft will distribute the prize money evenly across all
qualified finalists.

How does Microsoft decide on the locations of the Imagine Cup?
The location of the Imagine Cup has rotated from year to year. In 2003 the finals were in Spain, in 2004 they were held in Brazil, in 2005 the location was Japan, and in 2006 in India. Many factors are taken into consideration and the selection process is not an exact science.

If a student does not attend a four-year university, can he or she participate in the competition?
Absolutely. Any high school or TAFE student who is studying full or part-time can participate.

Why do the students need to supply all the information in English? Doesn’t this put students from an English speaking country at an advantage?

The submissions are judged on creative content and technical merit, not the student’s language ability. As you can tell by the list of previous winners, being a native English speaker does not put contestants at an advantage.

How do the judges get chosen and where do they come from?
Judges are invited to participate from a mix of industry partners,sponsors and academia from around the world.
