The Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD) credential is one of the most effective ways to demonstrate your expertise using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 and the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 in a specific, real-world job role.

Candidates for the MCPD certifications are professionals who use Visual Studio 2008 and the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5, or who anticipate working with these technologies in the near future. You should have at least two to three years of experience using the underlying technologies that are covered in the exam.
Each MCPD certification on Visual Studio 2008 requires that you pass between three and six exams, in addition to achieving the corresponding pre-requisite MCTS: .NET 3.5 credential(s), as shown in the following table.

Individual MCPD certifications will be retired when Microsoft discontinues mainstream support for the related technology.

If you hold an MCPD 2.0 credential on Visual Studio 2005, you can follow a simple upgrade path to earn your MCPD 3.5 on Visual Studio 2008. If you pass the upgrade exam listed in the following table, you will earn the relevant MCPD certification as well as the required MCTS certifications. Review the following table for additional information.
