The Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 certification tracks are based on six Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certifications that demonstrate your understanding of application development. Each certification focuses on the features and functionality of key technology areas in the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.
| • | MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5, Windows Presentation Foundation Applications |
| • | MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5, Windows Communication Foundation Applications |
| • | MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5, Windows Workflow Foundation Applications |
| • | MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5, Windows Forms Applications |
| • | MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5, ASP.NET Applications |
| • | MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5, ADO.NET Applications |
Candidates for the MCTS certifications are professionals who use Visual Studio 2008 and the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5, or who anticipate working with these technologies in the near future. You should have at least one year of experience using the underlying technologies that are covered in the corresponding exam.
| • | An MCTS certification highlights your areas of expertise, so that your skills and knowledge stand out to hiring managers and project leads. |
| • | By earning multiple MCTS certifications, you can demonstrate your breadth of knowledge of Visual Studio 2008. You can also build on your MCTS certifications to earn a Professional Series credential. |
| • | MCTS certification grants you access to the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) community and benefits, including a personal profile on Microsoft.com and access to the Microsoft Knowledge Base. |
Each MCTS certification requires that you pass Exam 70-536: TS: Microsoft .NET Framework, Application Development Foundation, in addition to the exam related to your desired certification listed in the following table.

Note If you currently hold any .NET Framework 2.0 MCTS or Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD) certifications, you have already fulfilled this requirement and do not need to pass Exam 70-536 again; you must pass only the exam related to your desired certification.
