Microsoft helps you detox your desktop for the New Year

Five easy ways to ensure you get organised for the year ahead

Sydney, Australia – 30 January 2008: You rush to it every morning, drink coffee and eat lunch at it, and perhaps even rest your head on it towards the end of the day! With the average consumer spending more than six hours per day on their computer,1 it's safe to say you probably spend more time at your desk than any other place most weeks. But when was the last time you could see under the mountain of papers that cover your desk?

Thankfully, with the New Year comes a new start, and now is the time to make a clean break from the mountains of wires, paper and drink stains.

Microsoft has prepared five top tips to make sure that your desk stays mess-free in 2008:

  • Be healthy at your desktop: You have your hands on it for most of the day, so why not make the healthiest choice you have made all year? Invest in your desktop health while becoming the envy of your colleagues by using an ergonomic wireless keyboard!

The Natural Ergonomic Desktop 7000 is the perfect partner to a desktop PC as it includes multiple features to ensure your hands are kept healthy, and you productive. The keyboard’s unique “gull wing” design with a 14-degree gable, cushioned wrist rest, optional palm lift and 12-degree split encourage better wrist and arm alignment. The included Natural mouse features a groundbreaking design with an elevated thumb scoop and rounded shape that more closely matches the relaxed curve of the hand.

  • The prefect companion for your notebook: If you are a mobile user this is a match made in heaven. No modern notebook is complete without a stylish Mobile Memory Mouse 8000. This notebook mouse is a rechargeable notebook mouse with 1 GB of flash memory built right into the transceiver. It even comes with a stylish carry pouch to help keep you organised. Designed to prevent Universal Serial Bus (USB) port shortage, the single transceiver is a three-in-one supertool that lets users work wirelessly, save important files with 1 GB of storage and recharge the mouse - all through one USB port.

  • Get rid of those breadcrumbs: The cleaner won’t touch it because of the important pieces of paper that reside there, and we’re sure that you rarely leave your desk for lunch. If so, consider turning over your keyboard and tapping it on your desktop. You’ll be amazed at the tiny pile of crumbs that has worked its way into your keyboard.

  • Wipe away: Sanitising wipes are simple and effective tools for cleaning your desk. If desktop surfaces are wiped down once daily, germ levels declined by 99.9 per cent2, so treat your desk like you would your home and give it a regular wipe down once a day!

  • Let there be light: Why not show off your new gear to your colleagues and get rid of those piles of paper that have accumulated over that past year. It’s a sure fire way to ensure good desk karma!
