Don’t Let Daylight Saving Leave You Behind

Microsoft advises customers to update their computers and smartphones in line with changes to daylight saving

Sydney, Australia – 26 March, 2008 –Microsoft Australia today issued an advisory to users of its software products reminding and recommending them to update their software to reflect upcoming changes to daylight saving in New South Wales, Victoria, ACT, Tasmania and South Australia. The company has also announced the availability of downloadable software updates which will automatically adjust products like Windows, Outlook, Windows Mobile and other time dependent systems.

In October 2007, the above-mentioned states and territories agreed to harmonise and extend their daylight saving start and end dates. From this year on, daylight saving will end a week later than usual on the first Sunday in April, and recommence on the first Sunday in October, three weeks earlier than previously in all states except Tasmania.

The extension of daylight saving means that some computer products will not display the correct time in the period between the old and new start and end dates. Consumers and businesses can easily update their computers by logging onto the Microsoft website, www.microsoft.com.au. The website offers a downloadable update that will synchronise computer clocks with state and territory wide changes.

The updates are only required for systems which are used in New South Wales, Victoria, ACT, Tasmania and South Australia time zones. Customers in other states are urged to update their systems, particularly if they communicate electronically with people or systems in the affected time zones or plan to travel interstate.
