SYDNEY, Australia, Monday, August 04, 2003
Macintosh users will now be able to experience greater cross-platform compatibility with the release of the Microsoft Exchange Update for Entourage X (10.1.4) for Mac OS X from Microsoft's Macintosh Business Unit (MacBU).
The Exchange Update provides integration and enhanced functionality between Entourage X for Mac - a comprehensive e-mail and personal information manager (PIM) designed specifically for the Mac OS X platform - and Microsoft Exchange Server, an enterprise server designed to meet the messaging and collaboration needs of small organisations and larger enterprises.
"The Exchange update is the type of integrated messaging solution that corporate and power users have been waiting for since the introduction of Office and Entourage for Mac OS X," said Ben Haylock of Virtue Broadcasting, a provider of webcasting application software and services and Microsoft Australia's platinum Windows Media partner.
"The update release shows the commitment from Microsoft to the Mac platform and community. Mac users are now able to communicate more effectively with corporate-style environments and the collaboration domain," Haylock said.
Henrik Kocharians, director of local Apple reseller, Maccentric, adds, "in cross platform technology environments, it is great to offer our clients a solution which will improve a compatibility issue and make it one step easier for the business to focus and drive their strategies and targets without having to be concerned with technical issues."
The Exchange Update will be available through a customer's existing or new Office v. X for Mac licensing agreements. All Office v. X for Mac customers will also be able to download the update for free (even if they do not get their e-mail from an Exchange Server) to experience enhancements to Word X, PowerPoint X and Excel X. The free download is available at http://www.microsoft.com/mac.
Cynthia Kouvatas, Microsoft Australia's MacBU marketing manager said, "We are excited to release the Exchange Update to the Mac community as it will offer Entourage X users greater cross-platform compatibility and a more powerful communication, information management and scheduling experience".
Specifically, the Exchange support contains the following enhancements:
* Scheduling: Ability to view other Exchange users' free and busy times for greater convenience when trying to schedule meetings or events.
* Directory service lookup: Allows for searching of global address lists.
* Offline use: Offers the ability to synchronise the Entourage X calendar and address book with the Exchange server for offline use.
* Improved text rendering: E-mail received from users of Outlook for Windows will feature better readability.
* Support for multiple e-mail accounts: Entourage X lets you set up as many accounts as you want - IMAP, POP, and even MSN Hotmail - so you can manage all your e-mail with one convenient program.
* Designed exclusively for Mac OS X: The elegant design of Entourage X takes advantage of the innovative features of Mac OS X, including the "Aqua" look and feel, and smooth rendering of text and graphics.
