Australian partners take flight to Microsoft Azure cloud

30 November, 2010 | Sydney, Australia

Microsoft Australia today announced that a group of its leading system integrator partners have publicly committed their businesses to the Microsoft cloud, following successes they have realised with the Windows Azure Platform in the ten months since it launched. Through the platform, Microsoft's partners are creating and delivering new cloud applications and services that are allowing their customers drive new models, increase speed to market and improve business agility.

As Microsoft today kicks off a series of Cloud Summit events in Sydney – Melbourne and Brisbane events scheduled for 2 December and 8 December 2010, respectively – it is continuing its heavy investment in delivering the best cloud platform and experience for both its partners and customers.

Twelve local partners1 have today publicly committed to continue to drive their business through the Windows Azure Platform. These are:

  • Avanade Australia
  • Data#3
  • Datacom
  • Dimension Data
  • East River Software
  • Fujitsu
  • NCS
  • OBS
  • Oakton
  • Object Consulting
  • Readify
  • SMS Management & Technology (SMS)

Philip Goldie, director of the Server and Tools Business Group, Microsoft Australia, said: "Cloud computing is driving a fundamental change in the economics of the technology industry and altering the ecosystem between development platforms. The fact that our leading system integrator partners are fully embracing the cloud with the Azure Platform, confirms that cloud computing is heavily ingrained in the future of Australian business."

Earlier this month, at the Windows Azure Platform University in Sydney, Microsoft's leading system integrator partners had the opportunity to:

  • Secure Microsoft resources, tools and support to help grow their businesses with the Windows Azure Platform;
  • Build a deeper understanding of the cloud market in Australia and Microsoft’s cloud strategy;
  • Develop important business relationships;
  • Meet the Microsoft sales and marketing teams and network with other Microsoft partners.

Philip Goldie added: "Our diverse partner community in Australia has already seen tremendous success in developing exciting new computing solutions using Windows Azure, unlocking the potential of cloud computing for businesses across the country and beyond."

The Windows Azure platform includes Windows Azure, SQL Azure and Windows Azure platform AppFabric, and offers a flexible, scalable and familiar environment for developers to create cloud applications and services. This gives Microsoft partners the ability to create new revenue streams through customer sales by building their own IP on top of the Windows Azure platform. It also provides customers with the choice to deploy applications in cloud-based Internet services or through on-premise servers, or to combine them in any way that best meets the needs of their business.
