Stability is key to film editing, says Australian film maker Morgan O'Neill

SYDNEY, Australia, 21 October 2005

Press Release:
Sydney, Australia, 21st October 2005 - The film maker handpicked as the Project Greenlight winner has chosen to edit his one million dollar feature film, Solo, on a Windows XP based system. Morgan O'Neill beat a field of Australia's best young film makers to win Project Greenlight. Project Greenlight is the brainchild of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, giving undiscovered talent the opportunity to produce a big-budget feature film.

Citing its stability, Morgan O'Neill says he is reliant on Windows XP in various stages of the film making process. With scripts and footage crucial to a finished film, O'Neill says that the system provides superior stability over competing platforms and is the number one choice for his editor.

Morgan O'Neill comments, “My editor swears by Microsoft products. He says the stability of the Microsoft platform far exceeds the competition.”

“Every film that I've ever made, both short and feature films, has been edited on software that sits on the Microsoft platform for stability. Because the software that drives editing is high-end it can have the worst possible ramifications when you're editing stuff! Stability is of the utmost concern to us.”

“Editing in particular is the same as writing. It's a detailed craft. I write all my scripts on a computer that runs Windows XP. Stability is where it starts and ends in terms of the technology that you use. Windows XP has been immeasurably helpful.”

Morgan O'Neill's Solo was chosen after an exhaustive process which began with 1,200 entered scripts. The highly anticipated movie is described as, “Part Carlito's Way, part Blue Murder. Solo is a dark journey into the heart of the Australian underworld and a brutal examination of what it really means to get out.” Solo will be screened on Movie Extra and is also guaranteed a cinema release in, early 2006.
