Preparing Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services for Western Australia daylight saving time changes

Starting on December 3, 2006, daylight saving time (DST) will be introduced in Western Australia for a three year trial period.

Microsoft will be producing an update for Microsoft products affected by the introduction of the Western Australia daylight saving time zone. These updates will be released through a combination of channels including Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS), hotfixes incorporated in Knowledge Base articles, Windows Update, Microsoft Update, Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), and the Microsoft Download Centre.

For Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2.0, Microsoft will release a time zone update in December 2006 which will include changes for the Western Australia DST change. This update will be released through Microsoft Update.

Microsoft will also be releasing a global time zone update for changes which have occurred since Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 was released. Customers should also apply this update when it is available.

Note: There is an issue with recurring events that started prior to December 3, 2006 but carry on through past that time. The times may appear one hour off. To correct this, open the recurring event and set the times again.

For Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, Microsoft will release a time zone update in December 2006 which will include changes for the Western Australia DST change. This update will be released through Microsoft Update.

Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 will natively include the global time zone updates. In addition, Version 3.0 has the ability to support historical time zones?the dates and times will render as the correct time across multiple years even if there are changes to the time zone definition.
