September 2002

Hi Developer,

I hope that you had a pleasant and relaxing holiday and that you are ready for a promising year of new developer challenges and opportunities. Every month, I will send you an update with the latest MS developer news, technical articles, downloads, webcasts, national and international events and much more.

Developer Information
MSDN Belux website

We are working hard on a new local MSDN website. The site will be live in October. There, you will be able to find the latest news in the MS developer space, an overview of the national and international developer events, interesting web links, presentations, demo code, samples, newsgroup information, product overviews …

Events

It is time to start a new series of MSDN chapters. The first one will be held the end of October. Dates and places are not final yet. Hopefully we can arrange a demo with a Tablet PC. Agenda and content details to follow via our website and later invitation.

Developer Tools Roadmap

Where will the product groups be steering Visual Studio .NET and the Microsoft .NET Framework in future releases? What enhancements can be expected in the tools? What changes should you anticipate as you invest time and money into development tools, practices and support, and the run-time infrastructure to support application deployments? This page contains a summary of our plan for Visual Studio .NET and the .NET Framework over the next two releases.

Visual Basic Television “VBTV”

Have a look to the first episode of VBTV — the groundbreaking, no holds barred Webcast built for Visual Basic developers by Visual Basic developers! VBTV is a new breed of Web-based seminar — part technical Webcast, part talk show, all Visual Basic .NET. In Episode 1, learn the fundamentals of Visual Basic .NET from Ari, Chris, Veronica, Betty, Big Daddy, Visual Bucky, DJVB, and of course, the Head.
ENJOY!!

Windows .NET Server RC1

The successor of Windows 2000 Server has reliability high on the priority list and provides by this means a way for broad adoption of .NET applications and XML Webservices. Windows .NET Server RC1 can be downloaded for testing purposes.

Architecture Center

The .NET Architecture Center is a rich online resource for architects that provides you with reference architectures, application building blocks and operational best practices for building architecturally sound enterprise applications.

WSDK Technology Preview

Download this new .NET library that adds support for Web service protocols, including WS-Security, WS-Routing, and DIME and WS Attachments, to the XML Web service infrastructure in the .NET Framework.

Microsoft .NET Data Provider for Oracle

The recently released new .NET Managed Data Provider for Oracle databases can dramatically improve the performance of .NET applications running against Oracle backend databases. The new provider can be downloaded by customers. The provider is similar to the .NET Managed Provider for SQL Server in that it extends the .NET Framework and works in conjunction with ADO.NET. The new provider is easy to use, and is referenced via the System.Data.OracleClient classes.

Webcasts

Sixty minutes of deep, how-to technical webcasts presented by Microsoft experts. These free events are live and interactive. Watch live code demos, engage the presenter with technical questions, and listen to your peers ask questions. Online seating is limited, so register early.

That’s it for now.

Best Regards,
