The Beta Experience

Hello, WPF!

Programming Windows Presentation Foundation is the first book on building Windows XP/Vista User Interfaces using Windows Presentation Foundation (aka WPF, aka "Avalon"). And it might as well be the only book you need on WPF.
By end of the first chapter you will be able to write "Hello WPF" in a procedural way, very much like your first WinForms program, or by using the declarative form of a XAML document. Going from there, there is a lot to explore, and given the playful style of book you will deeply enjoy it. Keep in mind this WPF book is definitive a programmers book, assuming basic familiarity with .NET development. It is essential reading for everyone making the transition from the "old" VB6, MFC or WinForms world to WPF applications on Windows XP or Vista. The book covers all aspects of WPF, such as the new programming styles for development, and the new way to create and compose controls. Included is an extensive tutorial on XAML, the HTML-like markup language of WPF.
You will find extensive discussion on topics such as 3-D, animation and timelines. Even your designers will use graphical tools such as the Expression family of designers to produce these things, it is essential knowledge how to interface with the produced content.
Last but not least you are provided with chapters on deployment and click-once as well as helpful hints how to combine your existing WinForms, MFC or ActiveX based stuff with WPF. Buy this book!

As author Chris Sells points out in Blog, the books now ships in Japanese as well.
