Adapter Support Policy

The following support policies apply to customers of Microsoft® line-of-business (LOB) adapters and Microsoft BizTalk® Adapter Pack.

To report any problems with the software, and to receive or give other feedback, go to the BizTalk Server Adapters and BizTalk Adapter Pack Forum.

For information about upcoming and already approved software updates, go to the WCF LOB Adapter SDK and BizTalk Adapter Pack Blog.

Service Packs

The BizTalk Adapter Pack ships separately from in-the-box BizTalk adapters such as FTP, SOAP, MQSeries, and others that are part of the BizTalk Server product. For a complete list of adapters and how they are licensed, go to BizTalk Server Adapters.

Microsoft plans to ship a service pack for the last-released BizTalk Adapter Pack on a yearly basis. Service packs will be aligned with the Adapter Pack product releases where applicable.

Service packs for N - 1 releases of the Adapter Pack are unlikely, but would be considered on an individual basis, as needed:

  • To help customers plan for updates, Microsoft intends to announce service packs at least six months in advance via the WCF LOB Adapter SDK and BizTalk Adapter Pack Blog, BizTalk Server Adapters and BizTalk Adapter Pack Forum, e-mails to field and customers, and this Web site.

  • Each service pack will contain support for the most recent software update shipped within two months before release to manufacturing (RTM) of the service pack.

  • Each service pack will also contain support for any new target versions of LOB systems shipped within six months before RTM of the service pack. For example, if the service pack is scheduled to ship in December 2010, Microsoft will include all LOB versions that shipped on or before June 2010. The particular LOB target versions that will be supported depend on customer adoption trends and demand.

  • Customers can get normal hotfixes and other support from Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) outside the service pack updates, per standard Microsoft support policy.

Changes to LOB Target Versions of a Product

Microsoft plans to deprecate legacy LOB target versions whenever there is a new Adapter Pack release.

Feature enhancements to legacy LOB target versions will be considered on a case-by-case basis only. Triage will focus on why a customer cannot migrate to the latest LOB target version. Discontinuation of support for versions will be based on customer usage and target vendor support status. In particular, Microsoft will not provide support for non-Microsoft LOB versions that are under extended support.

Deprecated Adapters and Features

Microsoft intends to deprecate adapters released as part of Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 with a release of BizTalk Server that ships with or after the corresponding Adapter Pack adapter. For a list of these adapters, go to Adapters in BizTalk Server and Line of Business Adapters in BizTalk Server.

Microsoft does not intend to ship any adapters that were included with BizTalk Server 2006 in future releases of BizTalk Server. For a list of these adapters, go to Adapters in BizTalk Server and Line of Business Adapters in BizTalk Server.

Microsoft plans to continue providing support for deprecated adapters, per standard Microsoft support policy.

  • Microsoft is not planning new feature enhancements for the legacy adapter. For instance, the features of the BizTalk Server 2006 SAP adapter will be frozen with the release of BizTalk Server 2009.

  • Support for LOB adapters will abide by a 10-year Microsoft policy, but will stop at third-party support boundary identification, when that third-party product is in the extended support phase.
