Stick it! Jazz up your gifts with snazzy labels

Embellish your presents with easy-to-make, festive tags

This gift-giving season, instead of racing around at the last minute to find the finishing touches for all your beautifully wrapped gifts, why not whip up a batch of holiday gift tags for your loved ones on the computer? Our free templates will help you make simple yet elegant trimmings for any gift.

Wine labels with matching tags

These white-and-red wine tags are great to stick on bottles of homemade wine or to affix to wine gift boxes. The modern design adds elegance that even the most discerning wine drinker will appreciate. Simply print the wine labels on sticker paper, trim the labels and affix them to clean bottles.

Then, add a little oomph to your gifts with our matching gift tags. Print the template on cardstock. Score a line down the middle of the tag (along the red line) and fold it in half. Make a hole with a regular or decorative hole punch in the upper corner, then insert a ribbon and tie it to the gift.

Thank you gift tag

No holiday is complete without thanking the people who make all the other days of the year that much better. We've made a pretty evergreen tree that will let the gift recipient know just how much you appreciate him or her. Print the tag on cardstock, cut it out, write a personal message and affix it to your gift. For a little extra pizzazz, thread ribbon through the tag.

Blank recipe card

Have a friend who covets your shortbread recipe? Turn that recipe into a gift. Collect all the dry ingredients for your recipe and tie them up in a gift bag, or insert them into a metal cookie tin. Then print off our blank recipe card, cut it out and hand-write the directions.

Try printing the card onto sticker paper. Write down the recipe and then affix the entire recipe card to a cookie tin. No more searching for the recipe — the recipient can just reload the tin with the ingredients. For gift giving, tie a red ribbon around the tin (with a cookie cutter thrown in), and you’ll have a pleasing hostess gift in no time.

Canister gift tags

We created two gift tags (small and large) that are perfect for labelling canisters and containers filled with yummy holiday treats.

Making the canister tags

There are two ways to make the canister gift tags: with full-sheet sticker paper or with cardstock.

Full-sheet sticker paper

  • Print the template on full-sheet sticker paper.
  • Trim the edges of the tag.
  • Hand-write the name of the canister contents on the tag.
  • Stick the tag to your canister.

Cardstock

  • Print the template on cardstock.
  • Trim the edges of the tag; then cut out the space in the centre of the tag as well.
  • Create a new Word document and type in the name of the canister contents. You can try a variety of fonts and even insert Clip Art. Copy and paste the written part of the tag into the document as many times as required.
  • Print the Word document on cardstock.
  • Cut out the written part of the tag and glue the canister tag on top of the text paper.
  • Let it dry; then affix the finished tag to your canister.

Materials

  • cardstock and full-sheet sticker paper (available at office supply stores)
  • colour printer
  • paper scissors or a sharp utility knife

Printing the templates

  • Download our Wine labels with gift tags or Recipe card and canister tags templates, save them to your desktop, and then open them in Word.
  • Remove any tags or labels you do not wish to use by clicking them with your mouse and hitting Delete. Copy and paste any tags or labels if desired.
  • Click on the text boxes to replace the text. Adjust the size and colour of the fonts.
  • Choose the paper product of your choice and load it into your printer, according to your printer manual’s instructions.
  • Print using the best-quality setting.
  • Cut out the tags using a sharp utility knife or scissors; then affix the labels or tags to the gifts.
