Joel Freedman

Chief Financial Officer, Microsoft Canada Co.


Joel Freedman joined Microsoft Canada as the Vice President of Finance in August 2007. Mr. Freedman has over 18 years of professional experience in financial leadership for public accounting and Fortune 50 companies. Most recently, before joining Microsoft Canada, Mr. Freedman was Finance General Manager, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and Americas Operations for Microsoft Corporation in Reno Nevada.

While at Microsoft Corp., Mr. Freedman led the financial operations in Reno since he joined Microsoft Licensing (MSLI) a little over three years ago, responsible for Accounting, Revenue Controls and Compliance, Financial Planning & Analysis, Tax, and Real Estate & Facilities. In addition, Mr. Freedman was the Executive Sponsor of Community Affairs at MSLI, involved in community outreach initiatives such as the Giving Campaign with the United Way of Northern Nevada.

Prior to Microsoft, Mr. Freedman spent 11 years in public accounting, including 10 years, with Deloitte in audit and M&A services. He also held several VP-level finance and business IT positions with McKesson Corporation in San Francisco.

Mr. Freedman holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley. He also earned an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and an M.A. from the Stanford University School of Education. He is a CPA and a real estate broker, licensed in the State of California. Joel enjoys spending time with his wife and their two young children, and when given the chance, enjoying live music, international travel, golf and reading.
