Boys and Girls Club of LaSalle Receives $1,000
Winner Receives Desktop Computer
Mississauga, ON, December 16, 2004 - Eleven-year-old Sherry Zhong from LaSalle, Quebec is this year’s winner of Microsoft Canada Co.’s Holiday Greeting Card Contest. Based on the 'One Person Can Make a Difference' theme, Sherry’s card was chosen from over 500 entries by Boys and Girls Club members from across the country. The artwork will appear on more than 20,000 holiday greeting cards. Microsoft Canada made the announcement today at the LaSalle Boys and Girls Club.
"Sherry’s entry demonstrates a great deal of creativity and captures the spirit of the theme ‘One Person Can Make a Difference’ with an international flair," said Pierre Chadi, Regional Sales Manager for Quebec, Microsoft Canada. "We know that our partners and customers across the country will be thrilled to receive such a colorful and well thought out Holiday card. We hope that Sherry receives as much joy from her new computer as her card will bring to those who receive it."
Microsoft Canada presented Sherry with an HP printer and desktop computer complete with a DVD CD-ROM and loaded with Microsoft® software including Windows XP and games. Microsoft also awarded the Boys and Girls Club of LaSalle/Club Garçons et Filles de LaSalle a cheque for $1,000.
"We are all very proud of Sherry’s efforts," said Mark Branch, Executive Director, Boys and Girls Club of LaSalle/Club Garçons et Filles de LaSalle. "Sherry is a highly creative and intelligent young girl and has an excellent rapport with her fellow club members. Sherry has shown her passion for the arts during the seven years that she has been a member of the Club."
"I had a lot of fun creating the greeting card for Microsoft’s greeting card contest," said Sherry. "I couldn’t believe that I won, I’m really happy that I won for the club and I’m so excited about having a brand new computer at home!"
This is the eighth year for the greeting card contest. Microsoft Canada works with Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada in communities across the country to provide programs designed to empower a generation of children and youth through technology.
