Brand security and monitoring company deploys one of the world’s largest implementation of SQL Server
Mississauga, ON – April 10, 2007 - Microsoft Canada Co. announced today that online brand intelligence and brand protection company Brandimensions has chosen to implement Microsoft SQL Server™ 2005. The software enables the Internet-monitoring company to crawl 750 million web pages per month, and demonstrates high transaction rates. By taking advantage of Microsoft-based software, Brandimensions has implemented an active database that has grown to eight terabytes of data and continues to increase in size on a daily basis. The technology gives Brandimensions’ employees access to a solution that helps provide a competitive edge when it comes to reliability, ease of use and cost.
In business since 2001, Brandimensions gathers online brand image intelligence, and helps businesses monitor and analyze consumer discussions (via blogs, discussion forums, etc.) for decision-making as well as help safeguard brands against fraud, phishing attacks and other offenses. Focused on delivering precise information to clients, the company needs to reference as many online sources as possible. To accomplish this efficiently, the company sought a way to automate the collection of relevant data. Working with Toronto-based Microsoft technology partner Affinity Systems, Brandimensions decided to create a solution based on Microsoft SQL Server 2005. As a result, the company is now able to store more than 70 billion links mapped for nine billion URLs and 240 million Web sites in its database. The Canadian and internationally award-winning Brandimensions solution maintains 7,000 to 10,000 transactions per second and crawling is set to scale to 1 billion pages per month.
“After a careful review of competing products it was clear to us that the Microsoft-based solution provided the greatest performance and reliability. As our business depends on monitoring Web content, which grows all the time, we were also impressed with the adaptability of the Microsoft® software,” said Hugh Hyndman, Chief Technology Officer, Brandimensions. “We constantly work to broaden the spectrum of our metrics, which helps provide customers with better business intelligence. Our new technology is making that possible.”
With help from Microsoft software, Brandimensions is also able to reduce the cost and effort needed to upgrade its browser-hosted client-side software. The new platform integrates into the company’s systems in a near-seamless fashion, making changes much more straightforward.
“As the Internet continues to become a more interactive and social medium, services like those from Brandimensions are becoming critical to businesses who are looking to help safeguard their brand and establish a solid connection with their customers,” said David McJannet, Senior Product Manager, SQL Server, Microsoft Canada Co. “We are excited that Microsoft software is being used to help support the work of innovators such as Brandimensions, and happy to know that commitment to top-performing products is helping these companies grow their business.”
