It’s all about quality.

What makes a quality app? Here are some things to consider:

  • Design

There are a number of considerations for this category, including conformance to the letter (or the spirit) of the Windows Phone UI guidelines, the visual appeal of app’s screens and graphic elements, how the app’s look and sounds make it stand apart, and the overall visuals and sonic “polish”.

  • Usability

Usability is not necessarily simplicity; complex apps can be usable if they help the user manage that complexity and help simplify the task.

  • Stability

Your app works consistently, handles errors and outages gracefully, and is as free of bugs as humanly possible.

  • Engagement

A highly-engaging app or game tempts the user to use it more often, either because it fits into the user’s life or because it has a pull that is hard to resist.

  • Sociability

How well does your app make use of the user’s social network? The network may consist of the user’s contacts on the phone, networking services such as Facebook or any system where many users participate and can be uniquely identified (such as a forum or gaming network). Scoring in this category should be based on the level and creativity of use of the user’s social network.

  • Cloud Integration (Optional)

Did you integrate Windows Azure and SQL Azure integration into the solution, and how well does the integration work to support the overall app?
