In 2005, the Business Software Alliance (BSA) commissioned a study on worldwide business software piracy. The study showed that in 2004:

• The world piracy rate was 35%
• For every two dollars’ worth of software purchased legitimately, one dollar’s worth was obtained illegally.
• Canada’s piracy rate increased from 35% to 36% in 2004.
• Vietnam has a piracy rate of 92% - the highest rate of all countries in the study.
