This week Ruth and I are in Seattle attending TechReady 14 — Microsoft’s internal technical readiness conference that allows us to get the latest information on current and upcoming products from Microsoft. Being here got me thinking.

Helping you acquire technical skills around the Microsoft solution offerings is one of the most important things we do as a team. This is one of the reasons we put on TechDays , as well as have TechDays and Microsoft Canada sponsor third-party conferences such as Prairie DevCon West , DevTeach , SharePoint Summit 2012 , and others.

It's also why we are bringing hands-on activities such as the IT Virtualization Boot Camps that recently took place in Toronto and will be coming to Vancouver February 10 & 11 (with both sessions sold out!!), Ottawa on February 17 & 18, Calgary on March 11 & 12, Saskatoon on March 30 & 31 as well as other cities. We will be posting registration links for all these on the Canadian IT Pro Blog , as well as announcing them on Twitter .

There are also great online resources such as Microsoft Virtual Academy , TechNet and more to get free knowledge to improve your technical skillset. And don’t forget your local user group where you can share your knowledge with your peers and help each other gain new skills.

Finally, as geeks, one of the things we love to do is play with the technology. From the TechNet Eval Center you can download many of our products for a free trial (usually 180 days) and get familiar with the latest offerings like System Center2012 or SQL Server 2012 , and others.

Like I have been told many times — you are the person in control of your career. We are here to help you get to the next level.
