Volume 10, Issue 10: May 2008
From the Editor
Dear IT Managers,
First off, huge congratulations go to this year’s winners of the Microsoft TechNet Canada Innovation Awards. There was tough competition as we had some excellent nominations! Yong Hu and his team consisting of Wenguo Wu, Stanley Jiang, Carols Rochetti and David Barnes from Navantis took the Top Team Award for their development and implementation of the Ontario Critical Care Information System. This system helps deliver critical care services in Ontario. The Top Individual Award was won by Kurtis Kril who implemented Active Directory Federation Services for Finning Canada, replacing the current costly and unreliable single sign on solution. More details about these top notch IT professionals and their projects can be found on the Innovation Awards web page.

The second item I want to make sure you’re all aware of is Energize IT. If you haven’t registered yet, you’ll want to soon as space is filling up fast. This is a free Saturday event with keynote sessions in the morning (during which the Innovation Award winners will be awarded their prizes) and breakout sessions in the afternoon. The breakout sessions are comprised of 8 tracks containing 3 sessions each, on topics such as green IT and simplifying your IT infrastructure as well as IT career development and fun consumer topics (because the love of technology doesn’t stop when you leave work!). There are lots of great sessions to choose from and something for everybody. In addition, if you bring your Windows notebook, there will be instructor led labs for you to participate in and sharpen your skills on the latest technologies.

This year’s Energize IT event is being held is Mississauga at the Toronto Congress Centre on Saturday, May 24, the weekend following the holiday weekend. So enjoy your time at the cottage over the long weekend and then come back and join us for an exciting day where we explore and learn and discover together that anything is possible!

Thanks for reading,
Ruth Morton,
IT Pro Advisor, Microsoft Canada.
