Security and Windows 7 |
Vol 11-14 | August 2009 |

Hello, my name is Mohammad Akif and I am the National Security and Privacy Lead for Microsoft Canada. Rodney is busy finalizing some details on
TechDays
2009 and asked me to fill in on the Flash. Today, I wanted to address some of the security enhancements in Windows 7 and invite you to subscribe to the Microsoft
security newsletter
. Security is one of the key pillars of Windows 7 and Microsoft has made a number of improvements, and you are most likely familiar with the changes to UAC, BitLocker and Kernel Patch Protection. But did you know Windows 7 also:
- has received an evaluation assurance level 4 certification and is compliant with US federal Information Processing Standard 140-2.
- also supports DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC) which are a set of extensions to DNS that provide the security services required for today’s Internet.
- provides support for password protection and certificate-based authentication for IEEE 1667 compliant USB storage devices.
These are just some of the security enhancements made to Windows 7. I would encourage you to subscribe to the Microsoft
Security newsletter
to read more details about other security features of Windows 7, find out more about security events and other threat landscape and prevention strategies.
Best regards,
Mohammad
