Ignite Your Career Vol 11-15 | August 2009

During our spring planning sessions, I volunteered to head up the Ignite Your Career Fall Webcast series again this year. The topic of maintaining your professional skills IN ADDITION to your technical skills is something that is very important to me. These often neglected skills give you an edge when it comes time to look for that next job or move on up the food chain within your organization.

According to the Information Communications Technology Council , the ICT Industry may be ready to pick up newly trained professionals with job opportunities coming up over the next few years but there is still either a skills shortage in certain geographies or a labour shortage in others.  The economy and the technical ecosystem may be headed in the right direction with good times around the corner but we’re still feeling some pain and have an element of fear which causes concern. Now more than ever it is important to invest in your professional skills.

You know what - it’s actually quite timely to kick off the series in September — a kind of “back to school” program for Technical Professionals.

Here are the four webcasts you can register for:

- Industry Insights and Trends  - Sept. 10, 12PM EST or 3PM EST

- Internal or External training - Know your options  - Sept. 17, 12PM

- Selling yourself - Are you using ALL your resources?  - Sept. 24, 12PM

- Developing your Leadership qualities  - Oct. 1, 12PM or 3PM EST

We’ve worked with CIPS once again this year and I’ve asked Shane Schick (Editor in Chief of IT World Canada ) to join me again as a co-host for the series. We’re still waiting for final confirmation from some panel members — a full list will be added to the Ignite Your Career website soon. We’re sticking with the one hour “radio talk show” format Q&A and this year we’re even piloting an alternate time slot to accommodate our west coast subscribers.

Go to the Ignite Your Career Website to check out the abstracts and register for the series. I promise you won’t regret making the decision to invest in yourself. I look forward to hearing from you during the webcast!
