SQL Server continues to be the backbone for a number of applications. From SharePoint to BI to web sites and even tools like System Center, SQL is the home to the data that make these tools work. There has been a lot of SQL Server R2 in the news lately. So what’s new? A lot actually but I’ve picked out a few things you should know:

-Improved backup compression that will reduce backup sizes

-Support for PowerPivot for SharePoint to analyze mass amounts of data in a fast, efficient manner

-New Parallel Data Warehouse edition that will allow you to scale your data warehouse to tens and hundreds of terabytes

-New Datacenter edition that offers support for more than 8 processors and up to 256 logical processors

From small solutions to massive solutions there is a something for everyone!

To continue your learning path on what’s new in SQL Server 2008 R2, I’d encourage you to attend a complimentary evening SQL Server 2008 R2 community tour presented by Damir Bersinic of Microsoft Canada. March 9- Winnipeg , March 16- Calgary , March 17- Vancouver and March 23- Ottawa . Seating is limited so register now.
